In 1994, my younger son’s medical condition deteriorated and I had to cut out all my weekday performances.
Drawing on my equity, and TV appearances, I joined Screenlite [an acting agency] because I could fit in ‘extra’ work around my son’s hospital appointments ~
and thus I joined the illustrious ranks of the professional Background Artiste.
With long hair and a raggedy beard, I easily fitted the stereotypical Tramp. A small word that encompasses many genres [ beggar, homeless or Big Issue seller etc] and still accounts for about 90% of my work. As for the other 10%, it is ‘Any costume with a beard’, the essential requirements for ‘low life’ or ‘outsiders’ throughout history.
From barbarian to biker via buccaneer [and a pirate, either comedic or cruel, always has the best costume?!].
